YANGON DIVISION – It has been reported from All Burma Federation of Students Union (ABSFU) Central that the junta council sentenced Mr. Nyan Win Htet , the former president of ABSFU (Dawpone) to 20 years in prison under unjustified sections.
The junta council abducted Mr. Nyan Win Htet at Dawpone Township, Yangon Division on June 30, 2022 and charged him under one charge of section 51(c) and two charges of section 3 of the Anti-terrorism Act.
ABSFU Central stated that the junta sentenced Mr. Nyan Win Htet to 8 years under section 51(c) of Anti-terrorism Law to eight years, and under section 3 to seven years on December 27, 2022. Then, on July 20, 2023, they sentenced him to an additional five years in prison under section 3. And as a result, he has been sentenced to a total of 20 years.
A young man from a revolutionary group said that Mr. Nyan Win Htet was sentenced under three sections. “The junta council added another 5 years in prison and added to the previous sentences of 15 years, he has now been sentenced to a total of 20 years. An ordinary student like Mr. Nyan Win Htet was sentenced to long imprisonment under terrorism charges by the junta regime. The revolution would not stop by arresting, imprisoning or violently killing the revolutionaries.”
A close friend of Mr. Nyan Win Htet said that 22-year-old Mr. Nyan Win Htet was a second year student of Psychology at Eastern University Yangon and he is currently imprisoned in Insein Prison and is in good health.
