KACHIN STATE – The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) frontline news source reported that the junta soldiers and officers from infantry battalion 142 in Dawtponeyan Sub Township of Momauk Township put up a white flag and surrendered on Friday (March 8).
KIA attacked the infantry base on March 7 and the junta forces there surrendered on March 8. It is said that the entire base was cleared and the junta forces that surrendered are being moved to safety.
“It is true that they surrendered. There were soldiers and some officers. We don’t know the exact number yet but the initial reports claim around 80 from the (junta) battalion surrendered. We can know the exact number only after scrutinizing on the ground,” said the KIA source.
The source added that the KIA led revolutionary forces continued to attack the junta camps along the Myitkyina-Putao Road on Friday while the junta council responded with excessive air and artillery attacks.
On March 7, at least 12 junta camps in Momauk Township and Waingmaw Township were attacked and the KIA led revolutionary forces successfully captured nine of those camps.
