SHAN STATE – Locals reported that the military troops arrested 14 youths in Bawsai Village, Kalaw Township, after accusing them of being new recruits for the Danu People’s Liberation Front-DPLF.
On February 28, military council troops suddenly arrived in four military vehicles and arrested 14 youths who were at Konethar Monastery in Bawsai Village, stated a local.
“They raided the village, in three or four military vehicles. They searched and arrested some youths. We did not hear any gunshots. Otherwise, we were afraid to look as we would be detained (for just being nearby),” said the local man.
A 30-year-old resident of Bawsai said, “Four girls were among the 14 detainees, and weapons were reportedly found and confiscated. I felt sorry for them”.
In military council lobby telegram channels, it was stated seventeen youths were arrested along with four guns, ten magazines, 560 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade which were seized from the monastery garage.
Media contacted DPLF about the military council’s allegation that those youths are new recruits of DPLF but have not yet received a reply.
Bawsai, a Model Village in Kalaw Township famous for its mineral products such as lead and silver, is a large village tract with various ethnic people and a population of nearly 15,000.
