BAGO DIVISION – In Nattalin and Paungde Townships, the local residents reported that they were only allowed to purchase fuel after obtaining a letter of recommendation from the junta council.
It is said that the recommendation letter to buy fuel has been required since the beginning of July, and it has to be submitted at the township junta council office along with the approval of the ward administrator.
“My personal experience is that even if I’m just buying two liters, they won’t sell it without the recommendation letter. Anyone or any business, if they buy in cannisters, they have to procure a letter,” said a resident of Nattalin.
He added that there are no restrictions on filling fuel tanks of cars or motorcycles, which can be done without the recommendation letter.
One of the residents said that requiring a letter of recommendation when buying fuel means that the junta regime wants to cut the supplies to the PDFs.
“The main reason is because they want to cut off supplies to the PDF, because they are afraid that the fuel will reach the PDF. In fact, this just created more of a nuisance for the people. We have to go to the military council office, and find a community administrator just to buy fuel,” said a Paungde resident.
In addition, those who bought fuel and passed the military council gate were still subject to inspection by the junta troops there.
A farmer in Nattalin Township said that although the rural farmers are currently using less fuel, if they still have to buy under such restrictions during the upcoming rice harvesting and mungo bean planting seasons, they may face a shortage of fuel for workplace use.
