KACHIN STATE- According to a traveler, the military council forces are keeping passenger cars and express buses as human shields at night at the Nan Si Aung checkpoint.
The military soldiers at Nan Si Aung Gate closed the gate at 5:30 p.m. and reopened it at 6 a.m. the next day.
At 5:30 p.m., the gate holds passenger cars hostage every day as human shields, a driver said.
“They let us in at 5:30 p.m. as if they were going to let go through the gates but as soon as we got inside, the door was suddenly closed from one side and the other,” said the driver.
A person close to the Nan Si Aung Gate said that the military council forces take cover of passenger cars and arrest them as human shields at night because they are afraid that they would be attacked by the revolutionary forces.
“The junta gates are always being attacked, so they are worried that their gates will also be attacked. That’s why they shut down doors between the gates at night and let the cars and passengers leave the next morning,” he said.
The gate is where the junta’s police, soldiers, Anti-human trafficking team and drugs control team were appointed, and the one where taxes are collected by military council employees such as oil and natural gas. There are always about 40 military personnel at the gate.
Nan Si Aung Gate is located on the border of Sagaing Division and Kachin State, where people are often arrested (for various reasons) at the checkpoint.
