SHAN STATE – It is reported that two people were hit and injured when a heavy weapon fired by the military council exploded while civilians were in the market on market day in Nampheka village of Kutkai township, Northern Shan State.
A resident from the Nampheka village said that “A heavy weapon exploded inside the market in Ward No. 1 at around 10:50 a.m. It was shot from the army hill. It hit a construction material store. Two people were hit. An ambulance was called. People were panic in the market.”
August 30 is the market day that opens once a week in Nampheka. Residents said that the military council fired heavy weapons from the hill of Infantry Battalion 123 (IB 123) based in Nampheka.
In addition, the residents said that there is a battle going on around the IB 123 compound and they are hearing gunshots.
Nampheka is a village between Mu Se and Kutkai, and there were clashes in these villages between the junta army and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
