MYANMAR – Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) reported that former political prisoner Ma Nobel Aye was shot dead by the military council, as she was allegedly trying to run away after returning from the court.
On February 8th, PPNM said her family member confirmed that she was shot and killed on the grounds that she was running away after returning from court in Waw township, Bago Division.
Ma Nobel Aye’s brother, Ko Htet Myet, said that after leaving the court, she was shot dead near Kyeik Lat village, Thanapin township, and sent to Waw Hospital.
According to Ko Htet Myet, a man who was arrested along with Ma Nobel Aye was also shot dead by the junta council’s soldiers.
“The 2 of them were cremated as unknown and unattended bodies. We don’t know where they were cremated,” said Ma Nobel Aye’s brother Ko Htet Myet.
Last January 29th, the junta council announced that 2 people, including Ma Nobel Aye, were arrested with weapons at the Nyaungkha Shay Gate in the Bago Division.
Ma Nobel Aye is a former political prisoner who was sentenced to 42 years in prison for participating in the student movement in 1996. She was also arrested in the 2007 fuel case.
