MANDALAY DIVISION – It was reported that thirteen political prisoners from Myingyan prison are shifted to Magway Prison and Thayet Prison, according to Mr. Shin Thant, a member of the Central Committee of All-Myanmar Political Prisoners Network.
The prison transfer was reportedly made last Friday night (June 30), meant to disperse the political prisoners, stated Mr. Shin Thant.
“Not all prisoners are moved to one place, they separate them. Even the brothers were separated and sent to different prisons,” explained the committee member.
The transferred political prisons are found to be Mr. Kyaw Min Naing, Mr. Thet Maung Maung, Mr. Kyaw Myo Tint, Mr. Zaw Zaw Aung, Mr. Oakkar, Mr. Zaw Hlaing, Mr. Soe Yazar Tun Lwin, Mr. Min Thway, Mr. Aung Myo Thant, Mr. Kyaw Soe Lwin, Mr, Zaw Ye Htet, Mr. Htet Oo Man and Mr. Kyaw Zin Oo.
The thirteen prisoners, who are transferred recently, were reportedly beaten and interrogated for allegedly connecting with the People’s Defence Force last May.
The injuries sustained during the interrogations were not allowed to be treated and they were reportedly locked in isolation after more than a week of interrogation. A month after that incident, they are transferred to other prisons.
There are nearly 1,000 political prisoners including the NLD government’s Minister of Sagaing Division, Minister Dr. Myint Naing, and activists and people who resist the military council from Mandalay, Monywa, and Myingyan Township imprisoned at the Myingyan Prison.
