MYANMAR – The United Nations Permanent Representative for Myanmar, Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun stated that as long as the international community fails to prosecute the Myanmar junta, the people of Myanmar will be subjected to harsher difficulties and more and more civilians will be murdered.
Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun said this in his speech on the human rights situation in Myanmar during the third committee meeting of the 78th UN General Assembly. The ambassador also urged the UN security council to take effective actions on the junta council.
He mentioned that the rule of law has deteriorated horribly in Myanmar with the legal system, arrests, courts, banking systems, information, communication and technology becoming mere mechanisms used by the junta regime for oppression, and that almost half the population has fallen into poverty owing to the joblessness and inflation arising due to the horrible corruption and worsening economic and investment sector particularly with how the previously hard achieved changes were turned over.
The ambassador also pointed out how the leader of the illegal military regime discarded the five ASEAN consensus that he personally agreed to during his meeting with the ASEAN leaders and ignored the other demands including the demand to halt terrorizing the civilians as per the security council’s resolution 2669.
Moreover, he continued that the junta council weaponizing the rights to humanitarian assistance, by imposing harsher restrictions on local aids groups, manipulating Humanitarian assistance, has created the largest obstacle for the United Nations and allied organisations to send aids to people in the conflict zones.
And thus, Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun stated that the international community should no longer allow the junta council to brutally murder the civilians and should decide on an effective resolution based on the security council resolution 2669.
