MYANMAR – The seven Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement Signatories (NCA-S) Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAO) that are members of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) of Ethnic Armed Resistance Organizations discussed finding practical and feasible ways to overcome the current political crisis in Myanmar, PPST announced.
PPST stated that in finding said means, there should be an emergence of a political dialogue involving all stakeholders, political dialogue should be a process that must be coordinated with the national process and it is reported that they discussed the role of the international community in the process of political dialogue and to stand firmly under the federal democratic principles desired by all ethnic people for the construction of a federal democratic union.
PPST members met in Chengmai, Thailand on May 17 and 18, to discuss the digestive outcome of informal discussions between the EAOs that are signatories of the NCA and the junta’s Committee on National Reconciliation and Peace Development that took place in late March 2023.
Moreover, the humanitarian assistance projects by the EAOs and the AHA center were also reviewed and discussed, as well as ways to find out methods to deal with civilian protection and humanitarian assistance processes.
PPST also expressed deep sorrow for the huge damage caused by Cyclone Mocha that made landfall on May 14, and announced that it will participate in emergency humanitarian work as much as it can in the storm-affected states and regions, including Rakhine State.
The seven NCA-S-EAO members that took part in the meeting were New Mon State Party (NMSP); Arakan Liberation Party (ALP); Democratic Karen Army (DKBA); Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC); Lahu Democratic Union (LDU); Pao National Liberation League (PNLO) and Shan State Reconstruction Council/ Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA).
