BAGO DIVISION – KNLA (Karen National Liberation Army) and PDF (People’s Defence Force) coalition forces detonated and demolished two electrical towers (transmission towers) between Kyauktagar Town and Thahtaygone Village in Bago Division, according to local residents.
The towers, located around 500 meters from the town of Kyauktagar, were said to have been detonated at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday (July 23).
“One tower broke in half, while the other is absolutely totaled, leaving only a small part standing,” said one resident.
The destroyed electrical towers were used to transmit electricity from Shwekyin Hydro Power Plant to China via Naypyitaw and are not towers that supply power to the Myanmar people.
The next morning, after the destruction of the towers, junta soldiers and police reportedly arrived at the site and set up security.
There have been frequent attacks on junta council troops and junta-affiliated businesses in Kyauktagar Township. The battle at Nanza Village in the township on July 19 saw the deaths of 41 junta forces.
