MYANMAR – The junta council has murdered 4,149 civilians after the military coup, as reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), based on the statistics available up to October 17.
From February 1, 2021, to October 17, 2023, the junta council illegally detained 19,621 civilians, and 7,777 of them were sentenced to prison.
One hundred and thirteen of the detainees were sentenced to death. Including the 43 who were sentenced to death in absentia, it brings the total number sentenced to death to 156.
Twenty-four were released on bail, and 5,687 were completely released. These numbers are based on AAPP’s statistics, and the real-time numbers may be higher. AAPP has also stated that they will update the statistics if new information becomes available.
