MYANMAR – The National Unity Government (NUG) Acting President Duwa Lashi La asked to rid of all thoughts and beliefs supporting racism and racial oppression during the Spring Revolution, the revolution to change the epoch and system, in his speech for the 77th Union Day on February 12.
The president said that after breaking free from British colonial rule, Myanmar has been under military dictatorship. The Union spirit has been destroyed by racial chauvinism, and the military dictators and racism, and oppression have been running rampant for numerous years.
“The Union spirit that could establish the core value of Penglong was destroyed by racial chauvinism and the military dictatorship. As a result, our country, despite gaining freedom from colonial rule, fell under the mechanism of military dictatorship. There were also manipulations and distractions to destroy the Union spirit among the ethnic people of the nation. The core value of equality and peaceful coexistence was brought to ruin under the military dictatorship. In addition, racism and oppression have been running rampant for numerous years,” said President Duwa Lashi La.
He added that racism and racial oppression have been growing in present Myanmar and urged to get rid of the schools of thought that encouraged such discrimination and oppression during the Spring Revolution.
“I’ve observed that racial discrimination has become a bigger issue in our country. We need to get rid of all thoughts and beliefs supporting racism and racial oppression during this Spring Revolution. Only then will there be a strong and clear view of the true Federal Democratic Union. We have to put in efforts in the revolution but also think ahead for the future building. In addition, we must not forget that many items still need to be prepared for the future Union,” said the President.
