KACHIN STATE – A KIA military source said that the joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) have attacked and captured the Tama Khan junta council camp in Hpakant Township, Kachin State.
KIA/KPDF joint forces launched an attack on the military council camp and police station in Tama Khan Village on the evening of February 26, and captured the police station that same day.
As the KIA forces continued the attack to capture the military camp, the junta council defended using air force, heavy artillery, and sent reinforcements, but the camp was captured after 13 days of fighting.
“The camp was captured between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. The terrorist soldiers ran away. More than 20 weapons were seized. Although they ran away, they are surrounded by us, so if they meet our forces, there is still a possibility of fighting,” said the KIA military source.
At least ten members of the military council were arrested during the occupation of Tama Khan police station and weapons and ammunition were confiscated.
In the battle for the military camp, the junta council army sent more than 80 reinforcement soldiers, and that reinforcement column was defeated by the KIA joint forces about a day after it arrived in Tama Khan. The column burned the village of Tama Khan before being attacked by the KIA, destroying hundreds of houses.
Local residents of Tama Khan are now taking refuge in safe places from the war.
