TANINTHAYI DIVISION – The Public Administration Boards of Myeik and Kawthaung have called for a boycott and not to use the newly printed 20,000 kyat banknotes issued by the junta council. The 20,000 kyat notes can come into people’s hands in various ways, and people should not use them, and if they come into their hands, do not keep them and exchange them for items of similar value.
At the present time, in addition to the military battle, the financial battle is also accelerating, so the people are encouraged to participate together.
Tanintharyi Township Public Administration Board and Thayetchaung Township Public Defense Organization have previously issued statements about twenty thousand notes.
In those announcements, they warned that if twenty thousand banknotes were found, actions will be taken. Criticism among the public has risen over the announcement of such punishment.
The military council announced to print 20,000 banknotes of white elephant’s birthday in the third week of last month to commemorate the completion of Marawijaya Pagoda.
Following the announcement of junta council to circulate 20,000 banknotes, the NUG announced that the 20,000 banknotes issue by junta council is illegal.
The NUG government stated that it is the time the junta council is facing a financial crisis, it printed 20,000 kyat notes and made efforts to extend their life and to continue to carry out terrorist attacks.
Currently, 20,000 kyat notes have not yet been widely used among the public.
