MAGWAY DIVISION – It has been reported from locals that since after military coup, there were high commodity prices, jobs difficulties and constraints in economy. Because of that locals in Pakokhu Township, Magway Division, happen to eat Sanlatkyoe (Salatkyoe) also known as broken rices.
Locals in western part of Myitkhay Township, Pakokhu Township have to have cheap broken rices due to lower amount of salaries than before.
Currently, locals clear grass and do harvesting but they only got 2500 kyats (lower than one dollar) and they couldn’t even get to do that job everyday.
A local of Myitkhay Township said that we only ate premium kind of rices earlier, we didn’t eat broken rices. Now many people are having broken rices. Big families could buy per bag but small families could buy per viss.
It has been reported that one bag (24 visses) of Manawthukha was 45,000 kyats before and it was 95,000 kyats now. The Salin rice (from Salin region) was 60,000 kyats before and it was 150,000 kyats now.
And also Manawthukha rough rice was about 4,000 kyats and one viss of broken rice was 2,900 kyats. There were one thousand different per viss and about 2,500 kyats different per bag between them.
Salatkyoe were came from zero mark (only good rices, not include broken rices) production.
It has been known from businessman of rice production that about 4 or 5 bags of broken rices came out from 100 visses of rice production. That were rice which were broken into one-third parts.
Junta forced to sell the rice merchants one viss of Eaemahta rice for 2,500 kyats due to control the high commodity prices, which are still in vain.
