MAGWAY DIVISION – Pakokku Township People’s Administration Body (PAB) issued a warning on April 1 against collection of toll at places that are not designated by the PAB in Pakokku Township.
The PAB said that since the People’s Defence Forces (PDF) have recently gained control of several highways and roads in Pakokku Township, there have been instances of makeshift gates and checkpoints on the road to collect toll.
As such, the PAB announced that starting April 1, collection of toll is absolutely not allowed except in places designated by the PAB.
“We released this announcement to prevent causing annoyance to the people by collecting toll after using bamboo poles as makeshift gates,” said an official from Pakokku Township PAB.
The PAB also warned that those who fail to comply will face serious consequences as determined by the coordination committee of township defence, security and law.
The program of collecting tax by the permission of the PAB will reportedly begin on May 1 at designated places.
Tax shouldn’t be a burden on the people but should be collected at a reasonable rate and it is not to be monopolised by any organisation or individual but should be used proportionally at the township, district and union level for regional development and stability, stated the PAB.
Township PAB in several townships of Sagaing Division have also issued similar warnings against the collection of tolls via makeshift gates.
