YANGON DIVISION – Pinlon Private Hospital in Dagon Myothit (North) Township, Yangon, announced that it will be closed for two months from February to March.
The hospital only stated that the closure was due to orders from above and did not disclose the details. However, sources within the junta council reported that the junta council ordered the hospital to close for employing CDM doctors. If this is true, this will be the first hospital to close in Yangon to employ CDM staff.
The junta council forced nine private hospitals in Mandalay City to close for employing CDM doctors and healthcare staff. Those hospitals are still prohibited from operating.
However, a doctor shared that Pinlon Hospital could be closed for some other reason, as the hospital issued a notice in advance before closing.
Another doctor commented that closing Pinlon Hospital would harm people as it is a private hospital that provides chemotherapy treatment for cancer patients.
“It takes a long time to receive chemotherapy at Yangon General Hospital so patients visit Pinlon Private Hospital for treatment instead. Dialysis and chemotherapy treatments are mainly done at Pinlon Hospital,” said the doctor.
Current patients at the hospital were reportedly transferred to other hospitals for treatment during the temporary closure in February and March.
Healthcare staff, including doctors, actively protested against the military coup and the majority of the healthcare staff across the country also joined the non-violent Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). In return, the junta council has been using violent oppression tactics such as imprisoning and murdering CDM healthcare staff, sealing off their homes, blocking their job opportunities, and banning them from leaving the country and finding employment overseas.
