MYANMAR- In Shan-Karen border, Pin Laung Township, an official from the PDF said that the two sides are under military tension because the military junta council has strengthened its forces in the area around Taung Mae Thin Village.
He said that since the beginning of October, the military junta troops have used a large number of forces to clear the area around Taung Mae Thin Village and have been stationed on the monasteries and pagodas in the village where the military junta troops are currently active.
“Some left in Taung Mae Thin. They deployed. I know that there is a lot of manpower. I don’t know the exact number. The military situation is tense. If they pass, we will shoot,” explained the person in charge of Pekon PDF.
There is only one mile between Taung Mae Thin Village, where the military junta council is currently stationed, and Taung Sa Lone Myauk Sa Lone Village, where the revolutionary forces dominate. As there is a road, fighting may resume once the other side crosses the line.
For more than 3 months, from early March to late May, there were fierce battles between the People’s Defense Forces and the joint forces of military junta troops and Pa-O National Organisation (PNO) in Pekon and Pin Laung Townships, which are on the border of Shan State and Karenni State, and the current fighting has been quiet for a few months now.
Shan Human Rights Foundation-SHRF has released that the military junta killed more than 30 civilians during the fighting, including the massacre of Nihim Nain village.
