SHAN STATE – There are more than 600 Karenni refugees in Kone Thar Village, Pin Laung Township, Southern Shan State and most of the children and the elderly are suffering from diarrhea, according to a person who is helping refugees.
“Mostly children and the elderly suffer from diarrhea after having a cold. There are not enough shelters and blankets,” said a refugee helper.
Diarrhea is not usually caused by the cold, but can occur as a result of the flu caused by climate changes, said a healthcare worker.
It has been reported that there are 623 Karenni refugees in Kone Thar Village, and there are around 60 cases of diarrhea. According to those refugee helpers, there are no medical clinics near the village where treatment can be provided.
It’s been reported that there are not enough blankets, warm clothes, and shelter for refugees and there are also illnesses due to the cold weather. Disabled children are also among those refugees.
“The main need is food, tarpaulins, and bamboo. There are not enough blankets,” he continued.
There are 228 households and more than 600 people in Kone Thar Village, most of whom are refugees from Loikaw, Mobye, and Pekhon.
