SHAN STATE- Locals reported that the junta-appointed Ward Administrator, Pyu Saw Htee members, and police in Thapyaykone Village, Pindaya Township, opened a Laykaung Gin (where a square top with four animal faces is used instead of dice) gambling house in the earlier January 2023.
“The gambling house has been opened for almost five months. The policemen are there every day securing the area and their affiliates (Pyu members and ward administrator) charge line fees to the gamblers. Since the locals are mainly farmers who grow onions, some are already in debt of fertilizer and general expenses for farming before they could harvest,” said a local.
There are two to five gambling tables in Thapyaykone Village and the junta affiliates charged 20 to 25 lakhs a day as security and line fees.
During the full moon day, new moon day, and public holidays, when there were weddings and Charity events at Thapyaykone, Kanthar, Shoutcho, Lalpyin, and Layhtoekone villages, more people would be in the gambling house.
In Southern Shan State, in areas where the revolutionary forces are beginning to dominate, the Junta council force to open gambling houses with the help of their affiliates.
