SHAN STATE – On July 29 night, heavy artillery fire despite the lack of battle in Lwalkone Village, Pankai Village Tract, and Kutkai Township hit three civilians, a grandmother, her daughter, and her granddaughter, and the grandmother was killed, according to social volunteer groups and residents.
“It happened around 9 p.m. last night (July 29). There were three shells, but two of them didn’t hit anyone as they landed in the fields outside the village. One landed in the compound of those injured people. They were either having dinner or doing something after dinner in the kitchen. I heard that they were getting up to move to the bomb shelter, scared by the explosions from the first two shells when they were hit,” said an official from Myitthar Shin Social Assistance Group (Namhpakka).
The shell of unidentified origin landed and exploded in a house compound in Lwalkone Village (Ward No. 6, Namhpakka), hitting a family of three Ta’ang (Palaung) ethnic people, and 60-year-old Ms. Aye Ai was killed.
Her daughter, Ms. A Wawm, in her forties, and her 15-year-old granddaughter, Ms. Pa Pa Win, were also injured and have currently been sent to Kutkai Hospital.
Although residents believe that the shells were fired by junta infantry battalion 123 based in Namhpakka, it cannot be independently confirmed.
Local defense forces and junta council troops faced off in Namhpakka recently on July 18, and a heavy artillery shell fired by junta troops killed a high school student and injured four people in Zeetaban Village.
