YANGON DIVISION – According to residents, 13 female employees of Thamadi Gold Shop in Pabedan Township were abducted by the junta troops on June 19 evening for allegedly participating in the flower strike.
The junta troops reportedly abducted the female employees at around 3:15 p.m. from Thamadi Gold Shop at the corner of Shwedagon Pagoda Road and Mahabandoola Road, in Ward 1 of Pabedan Township.
“The ladies were only wearing flowers on their heads but not protesting as claimed by the junta troops. The troops rushed into the shop and detained the employees,” stated a witness.
A total of 13 people, eight employees including a sales clerk from Aung Samadhi Gold Shop in Ward 1, and five women including a sales clerk from Thamadi Gold Shop at the corner of Mahabandula Road and 29th Street in Ward 7 of Pabedan Township were reportedly abducted by junta troops.
Currently, the female employees of Thamadi Gold Shop are being sued for staging a flower strike protest and investigated by the Township Administration Officers at the Pabedan police station.
Similarly, at around 10:00 a.m. on June 19, eighteen people who distributed roses and wore flowers at Htaukkyant Market were summoned to the Municipal Development Office under the junta council and interrogated.
It has been over two years since the junta council staged a coup, forcibly seized power, and imprisoned State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi who turned 78 years old on June 19. The junta council, rejected by the nationalities, is concerned (and trying to stop by any means within their power) about the wishes and protest strikes on Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday.
