MYANMAR – The team led by Mizoram MP Pu Valalvena from India is reported to have met and discussed with the Arakan Army (AA) regarding the construction of road in Paletwa Township that is currently under control of the Arakan Army.
On Thursday (February 29), the Mizoram MP led team arrived at Zorinpui in Mizoram State and met with responsible persons from AA to discuss the construction of the road connecting East Lairel in Mizoram to Paletwa. The road connects India and Myanmar and is part of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) connecting Mizoram State and Paletwa Township.
Although the Indian government has previously discussed with the junta council regarding the KMMTTP for the construction of road in Paletwa, they are said to have initiated discussions with AA as Paletwa is now under control of AA. KMMTTP connects the Kolkata seaport to Sittwe seaport and is connected to Paletwa along the Kaladan River via inland jettyriver boat route.
It will then connect Paletwa to Mizoram State, opening the trade route between Kolkata, Sittwe, Paletwa and Mizoram along the Kaladan River. Even though the Arakan Army has seized control of the Kaladan River as well, AA has currently only discussed the construction of road in Paletwa Township with the India government and has not discussed the Sittwe deep seaport nor the construction of road along the Kaladan River in detail yet.
KMMTTP is a 484 million USD project connecting the eastern Indian seaport of Kolkata with Sittwe seaport in Rakhine State by sea.
