CHIN STATE- The military council continued to bombard the Paletwa and its surroundings, which are currently under the control of the Arakan Army (AA). According to residents and local news reports, at least 5 innocent civilians have been killed in last week’s bombing and machine gun attacks.
On February 11th and 12th, the military council carried out air strikes without any ongoing fights between the two sides, according to the local news source.
It is reported that 5 innocent civilians (2 women and 3 men) were killed on the spot due to military council bombardment and machine gun fire.
A Paletwa resident said, “On the 11th and 12th, there was a funeral at Myaynigone area, Myoma Ward, and many people were gathered there. The military council bombed the area from the air. The deceased were a 25-year-old lady, a 19-year-old man, and three children; two boys who are five and fourteen years old, and a nine-year-old girl.”
In addition to this, 3 residential houses and the Baptist office building were also damaged, especially the windows, according to residents.
A resident said, “Mr. Sakhu’s and Mr. Patlone’s houses were destroyed. And the Paletwa Baptist Church pastor’s home was also destroyed. The windows of the Baptist Church office were also damaged. There were no people in those houses, so the owners were not injured.”
On January 10, after the Arakan Army (AA) captured the headquarters of the Military Council’s 289th Battalion based in Paletwa, the entire Paletwa region was controlled by the AA.
