RAKHINE STATE – The Arakan Army (AA) pronounced that many junta thugs including Tactical Operation Command Colonel Myo Min Ko Ko, Commanding Officer of Infantry Battalion 208 Lieutenant Colonel Phyo Thu Aung and Major Saw Htwe were killed in the battle for junta Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 550 based in Ponnagyun Town, Rakhine State.
On February 21, AA launched offensives toward LIB-550 based in Ponnagyun and completely captured it on March 4. AA was said to have taken over the junta council’s Ponnagyun Police Station since February 22 and fully took over LIB-550 after engaging in intense battles lasting for 13 days despite the junta forces defending by using infantry, navy, and air forces.
During the stated camp capture battles, the dead bodies of many junta thugs including Tactical Operation Command Colonel Myo Min Ko Ko (DSA -42) from LIB-550, Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Phyo Thu Aung from Infantry Battalion (IB) 208 and Major Saw Htwe from LIB-550 were found. There were some junta thugs arrested alive and many weapons, ammunition, military stuff were confiscated. Other than that, AA has relieved the lives and taken good care of the soldiers under the junta council and their families who raised white flag and surrendered earlier.
The Special Task Force of AA could deter and assault the junta council’s two Ro Ro vessels which were heading to LIB-550 in Ponnagyun for reinforcement on March 3 at around 8:00 a.m. and could also manage to stop one more vessel heading to save the two prior seized vessels.
Furthermore, AA claimed that though they could not accomplish to sink all three of junta’s reinforced vessels, they managed to injure the junta thugs on board the vessels. Although the junta council counterattacked with intense airstrikes and heavy artillery from their Sittwe and Buthitaung strongholds during the attack, AA could remarkably achieve one more victorious navy battle.
