TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Palaw Township residents said that the junta council army arrested a woman who was selling consumer goods on a motorcycle in Zayathsate Village.
On Thursday (August 17) at around 4 o’clock in the morning, Ms. Mi Kang went shopping to restock her goods when the soldiers of the junta council, who were checking at a crossroads called New Road, arrested her.
“Soldiers don’t usually check up there. They have been moving around day and night in two small cars since several houses of their subordinate militia were burned in the previous day. I don’t know why she was arrested,” a local man said.
At present, Ms. Mi Kang and the motorcycle she was riding have been detained at the Pala Police Station.
Two houses reportedly belonging to junta militiamen, near the Pala police station in Ward No. 3, Pala Town, were burnt down two days ago. After that, the soldiers of the junta council have been opening fire randomly at night and conducting frequent patrols.
Palaw Township is under martial law. There are daily activities such as exchange of gunfire between armed forces, civilians getting arrested or injured by shrapnel from a heavy weapon and replenishment of troops by land and water.
