TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Mr. Arnold, the information officer of Myeik District Battalion 1 mentioned that a confrontation broke out on the offing near Kyaukkar Village, Palaw Township, on September 7.
The information officer mentioned that the junta council troops on the battleship stationed at Kyaukkar Village, a seaside village, opened fire on the members of Myeik District Battalion 1 who were travelling on the offing at around 8 a.m. Following that, there was a brief exchange of fire between the members of PDF and the fascist junta troops, for about 20 minutes.
Mr. Arnold continued, “They (junta council troops) first opened fire on the members of PDF. It was like they had got the information in advance.”
Although sounds of the junta battleship firing heavy weapons at the members of PDF was heard, PDF members reportedly didn’t witness any blast from the attack. As another battleship arrived during the confrontation, the members of PDF had to retreat.
It was the very first naval attack in Palaw township.
Since a few months ago, a battleship from the junta council’s naval army anchored near Kyaukkar Village and inspected the entry and the exit of the small fishing boats. During the inspections, they (the junta council troops) are known to open fire as a threat.
Five days ago, a dead body of an unidentified man was found trapped in the fishing net of a small fishing boat, on the offing, near Leik Thaung Village, Palaw Township. The hands of the dead body were tied in his back.
In Palaw Township where the junta council declared martial law, the overland attacks and naval attacks occur frequently, with shootings breaking out almost daily in the region.
Tanintharyi Township, the another martial law declared region in Tanintharyi Division also saw three landmine attacks on September 6 and the situation between the members of PDF and the fascist junta council troops is said to be tense.
