AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – The residents in the beach region of Pathein Township are being made to pay monthly fees to the junta council.
The junta council reportedly ordered the administrators of the villages at Ngwesaung and Chaungthar Beaches as well as a village on the beach in Ngayotekaung Town to submit the fees monthly starting August.
“Ordering the village administrators to submit the fees just means to collect fees from the businesses in the villages. Now, they have a reason to collect those fees,” said a resident of a village in Pathein.
The village administrators have to collect and submit 60,000 kyats to each nearby junta battalion monthly, according to sources close to the administrators.
Currently, owners of lumber, charcoal, bars and fisheries in the beach region have been made to pay the fees, said the residents.
