AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – The junta housing department is reported to have summoned the retirees from Pathein government housing to a meeting and told them to move out if they wish to reach nirvana and threatened that those who don’t move out will be going to hell.
During the meeting held on March 14 morning, the housing department pressured the retired staff on pension to move out and that those who don’t move out will be chased out according to the procedures of the eviction law, adding that new housing development projects will be taking place at the site of the existing housing.
The junta housing department also reportedly said during the meeting that retired staff continuing to reside in government housing is breaking the law, that it will have consequences in their karmic cycle as per the teachings of Buddhism and that it may result in them being homeless in their next lives.
“It seems like the retired old people will be evicted from their houses. Pathein government staff housing will be demolished and new housing will be built there. The children of junta ministers have planned housing projects there that’s why they are chasing away the retirees,” said a retiree living there.
According to the residents there, several households were evicted in February for opening home stalls as the junta council claimed to remove households that broke rules.
