BAGO DIVISION- A resident reported that the military council announced a night curfew for the villages in Paukkhaung Township in the western part of Bago Division, where martial law has been declared.
Starting in February, when martial law was first declared in Paukkhaung, the military council issued a curfew for the entire township from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
However, starting November 15, the military troops do not allow locals of Paukkhaung to leave their houses between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., but in the main city and neighborhoods, the original 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. curfew has not been amended.
“The Junta troops, using loudspeakers, announced that villagers should not go out after 6 p.m. till 6 a.m.,” said a female resident of Paukkhaung.
She continued to say that as the order to prevent people from going out after 6 p.m. has been issued, market traders living in rural areas are facing difficulties.
“Limited traveling time isn’t good for us. Vegetables and crops have to be bought from the farms all around the place, so sometimes we get home late. I don’t know what happens next, but we all have to face it and work it out,” said a female trader.
Paukkhaung Town is located near the Bago River, and since last July, the junta troops only allowed three bags of rice to be loaded on a car and asked the shopkeepers for the phone numbers of rice buyers from Bago Yoma region to keep a record, according to a resident.
The military council has announced martial law in the towns of the western part of the Bago region, such as Paukkhaung, Paungde, Nattalin, and Okpho, since February.
