BAGO DIVISION – On May 21, according to a close acquaintance to the administration, the junta council troops prosecuted a man from Paungde town, the western part of Bago division under section 505 (A), after detaining for 15 days.
Mr. Wai Lin Tun who lived in 14th street in Paungde town, was abducted from his home in the evening of May 5.
The close acquaintance continued that “during the investigation, nothing suspicious was found in his phone. So, he was held in custody overnight. On May 21, he was prosecuted under section 505 (A). He was currently held in Paungde police station custody. He has not been transferred to the prison yet.”
“While the junta police found it difficult to prosecute Mr. Wai Lin Tun as they couldn’t find any evidence, the junta army’s side forced the police to prosecute Mr. Wai Lin Tun,” he added.
A local resident mentioned that “his facebook account is still showing active now, even after he was abducted, messages were sent to his friends via his messenger. It’s also the same when another person Mr. Myint Tun was abducted, the messages were sent to his friends via Mr. Myint Tun’s messenger. We don’t know who is using it.”
It was known that some of Mr. Wai Lin Tun’s friends get the messages via his messenger after his abduction.
Another resident said that “Mr. Wai Lin Tun didn’t do anything, except he posted some demonstration news against the junta council on his social media account. He didn’t go anywhere after the coup. He didn’t even know what is happening in the downtown. It was all a frame-up, I guess. The point why he was prosecuted is because he cannot give the money what they (junta council troops) extorted.”
There were frequent arrests by the junta council in Paungde town, since the coup. Mr. Myint Tun, an executive of National League for Democracy, was abducted on April 24 and he was murdered during the interrogation, after a week.
According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), there were 22531 people countrywide were abducted by the junta council, since the coup, 2021 and until May 19, 2023. 18218 out of 22531 people are still being detained and 5990 people were sentenced to prison.
