MYANMAR – 85 young men from Dikeoo town were abducted by the junta as new recruits for the 2nd batch of junta conscription service.
In the beginning of May, the junta council abducted young men at night, telling them that it is for guarding railway or medical check-up. Junta said they are taking the young men for a while but took the abductees with the junta vehicles on May 7 and the abductees lost contact with their family.
“The junta took the young people and told them that they had to guard the railway and undergo a medical check-up. Total 85 people were taken in the whole town of Dikeoo township. At first, they were kept in the 440th light infantry battalion of Dikeoo. On May 7, all the young people were taken in junta vehicles. The arrested young people lost contact with their parents and relatives. It is known that they were arrested as soldiers for the 2nd batch of junta conscription service,” said a local resident.
Similarly, the Mon state junta council announced that 50 young men had been recruited as new soldiers for the 2nd batch of the junta conscription service.
On May 3, 50 young men were sent to Waekali military area, Thanphyuzayat Township, Mon state for 2nd batch of junta conscription service and among these youths, some were forcibly abducted by the terrorist army without the consent of their parents.
“Some young people who were forcibly abducted from the Aukkyin ward of Mawlamyine without their parents’ consent to join the army. They were arrested and sent to the junta council,” said a local resident of Mawlamyine.
