BAGO DIVISION – As the roofs of the IDP huts in western Bago Yoma have deteriorated, IDPs Support Group is said to have replaced them with new roofings.
The displaced people living there number around 100 and we’re originally from the villages in Paungde Township and the border of Thaekone Township that were completely torched by junta arsonists.
“The huts were there since before. But the roofs have to be replaced every year and it cost around 60,000 Kyats to replace the roof for one hut. So we collected 60,000 Kyats (per hut) from the donors. The replacing of the roof is not yet completed for all huts. We just uploaded those that were completed,” said Ms. Hteik Htar Tha Khin from IDPs Support Group.
She continued that they plan to replace the roofs of around 50 huts and that they have completed around half of the target.
In addition, it is said that the displaced people are having difficulties acquiring water as it’s the hot season and they have to roam around the Yoma in search of a great water source.
“They have to gather water from the creeks for water. Water is scarce and they can’t use as they wish. They can only use what they can gather from the creeks,” said Ms. Hteik Htar Tha Khin.
Donors local and abroad have assisted with roofings and providing meals for the IDPs and treating snacks to the children (of the IDP) via IDPs Support Group.
The organisation is also building school buildings for the interim schools in Magway Division and Sagaing Division as well as providing assistance in Karen State and Karenni State.
In western Bago Division, the junta council is conducting offensives and clashing against revolutionary forces along the Bago Yoma in Paukkhaung, Paungde, Nattalin and Gyobingauk Townships.
