BAGO DIVISION – A team led by Captain Thant Zin Oo of the 90th Infantry Battalion of Thanlyin has been destroying Pagodas religious buildings, with the reason that PDFs are hiding in the parish area of Day Sun Par pagoda, in WanBeInn Village, Bago Township. Some of the villagers from the village of Zalote Kyi, Kawhmu township are being hired as laborers.
Captain Thant Zin Oo of IB-90, who led to destroy, was from Zalote Kyi village, Kawhmu Township. It is said that he led by himself and hired some villagers to vandalize the religious area of Day Sun Par. Captain Thant Zin Oo, who is destroying pagodas, recently recovered from his injuries after a car overturned.
“They took the workers from Kawhmu Township after paying 10,000 per day. They travel back and forth between Bago and Kawhmu once a week. It’s not just about selling irons from temples but they are clearing the bamboo and selling them. The 4 monks staying in Day Sun Par pagoda were sent away by that captain. The monks are already old in age and religious life. When villagers were taken to clean up the bamboo groves, some of the villagers came back because they were asked to destroy the pagodas. Some of them came back because they thought the temple would have to be demolished,” said a local resident.
The wife and child of the captain of IB-90, who led the demolition of the pagodas, did not live within the compound of regiment, but lived in Zalote Kyi village, Kawhmu township.
