MYANMAR- According to the announcement made by the Ministry of Health (MOH), within a week from July 2-8, two hundred and sixty-three new Covid-19 cases were confirmed.
The recent identification of nineteen cases was confirmed on July 8, twenty-two cases on July 7, and the highest case confirmation on 6th July being eighty-three, followed by sixty-one cases on July 5. Similarly, Thirty-six cases were reported on July 4, twenty cases on July 3 and twenty-two cases on July 2 respectively.
According to MOH, from the first identification of Covid-19 in Myanmar in March 2020 until 9th July, 10,904,013 tests have been run and 640,737 cases have been confirmed.
The confirmed cases were quarantined at home or hospitalized and 619,560 have fully recovered and fatality of 19,494 cases.
The recent Covid-19 strain that has been spreading around, XBB.1.16 is 1.27 times more contagious than the previous strains XBB.1 and XBB.1.5 but the symptoms are less serious, and hospitalization and death rates are much lower. As usual, the elderly persons and those who have underlying diseases are more susceptible to Covid infection, as announced by the Junta’s Ministry of Health.
