MYANMAR- It is stated in the NUG People Resistance War’s second-anniversary report that 13,771 military and police personnel have taken refuge under People’s Embrace after the military coup. More than 4,000 have returned to serve in the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
Moreover, about 70 different arms, more than ten thousand bullets, bombs, and military equipment were reportedly confiscated from those who took refuge in the People’s Embrace, and more than three hundred million Myanmar Kyats were rewarded to them.
It is also stated that the National Unity Government (NUG) has given security guarantees to the refugees per the law and will allow them to return to their posts after the establishment of a Federal Union in the future.
It is also mentioned that NUG had made plans for the informants and troops who wanted to support the revolution but were unable to take refuge in People’s Embrace due to various reasons.
There were high-ranking officers, including deputy majors and senior officers, among the 13,771 military and police officers who had already taken refuge, and a total of 14,000 junta forces had contacted the People’s Embrace, adding up the recent applicants under the verification process.
NUG also announced in the report of the People’s Resistance War that those committing war crimes and terrorizing the public while being loyal to the military council will be punished according to the law.
