RAKHINE STATE – The Arakan Army (AA) announced on Saturday (March 9) night that junta Lieutenant Colonel Ye Htut Win and many junta soldiers, that ran away when AA captured the junta council’s No. 9 Regional Center Training School (No. 9 Military Advanced Training Depot) near Kan Ni Village in Minbya Township, were caught dead.
Those junta forces that ran away from Regional Center 9 were reported to have taken over 20 innocent civilians as hostage from the villages along their retreat route. AA stated that those hostages have been rescued while the abductors, the head of administration of Regional Center 9, Lieutenant Colonel Ye Htut Win and other junta council members were captured dead on March 8 morning.
In addition, AA informed that they have been catching some of the junta escapees running away from the junta division base in Kyauktaw and other military bases including Regional Center 9 everyday.
The Arakan Army stated that it is continuing its attacks on the determined military targets one after another and notified that it is working to capture the enemy troops trying to escape in an order less manner after the junta council had to surrender several bases in the past week.
AA also urged the civilians to be careful when travelling both day and night and to have a security awareness as the escaping junta soldiers could be staying in the jungles alone or in groups.
The junta council troops remaining in Rakhine State were also advised again to surrender and put up the white flag before it’s too late.
AA added that those who surrender earlier shall be spared their lives earlier while the camps that don’t surrender will be continued to be attacked.
Regarding the military situation on March 9, AA informed that the junta troops fired heavy artillery into Rathaetaung from Sittwe and over ten houses were destroyed as a result.
In addition, AA stated that the junta council shelled the town of Ramree from Navy ships, bombed using fighter jets, Y12 planes and helicopters and shot with machine guns for the entire day.
