TANINTHAYI DIVISION – In October, fighting broke out in almost all townships in Tanintharyi Division with at least 45 fights and shootings within the month. These events happened in all the remaining nine townships in Tanintharyi Division except Kawthaung Township.
Most incidents of fighting took place in Dawei, Thayet Chaung, Yebyu and Launglon Townships of Dawei District. At least 31 fights occurred in those four townships within October. The People’s Defence Forces in Yebyu Township said that junta council forces also burned around 30 homes.
“We believe that the terrorist army is entering Yebyu to wipe out the revolutionary organizations because of the plan to restore the deep-water port. And if they burn the houses, the public will be afraid to help the revolutionary organizations,” said the information officer of Yebyu Township People’s Defence Organization.
During the battles that took place in Tanintharyi in October, seven PDF soldiers fell and at least three were wounded from Dawei, Myeik, Thayet Chaung, Yebyu and Palaw Townships.
According to the statements of the People’s Defence Forces, over a hundred were killed and over 40 were injured on the side of the junta council soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee militants.
The 45 battles, in addition to the clashes, also included detonation attacks and attacks with mortars by People’s Defence Forces.
In about half of all the battles, the People’s Defence Forces launched attacks on the junta council camps, police stations, checkpoints and Pyu Saw Htee camps. Last September, there were at least 48 battles in Tanintharyi, and 16 soldiers from the People’s Defence Forces were killed.
