TANINTHAYI DIVISION – Six of the eight residents who were arrested last week in Kanpauk, Yayphyu township were released on July 20.
On July 15, military council soldiers entered their home and arrested them after they found a land mine at the intersection of the Kanpauk Forest Office.
Those who released were Daw San Myint, the owner of a grocery store in Kanpauk Market, and her family members including Daw Micho, Ko Kyaw Kyaw, Ko Kyaw Oo and Ko Min Thu Aung, Ko Kyan Kyaung who work at the shop.
“The Navy brought them home with small cars. I heard nothing happened. If something happens, no one will dare to say anything in this situation,” a local man said.
In addition to the 6 local residents who were freed after finding a mine at the Forestry Office intersection, two women in their 30s from an electrical goods store near the Kanpauk stone post were also arrested. They have not been released yet. Since the day the mine was found in the Kanpauk area, patrols have been made more than usual. In front of the Hsin Koe Yat waterfall, every passerby is checked their national identity cards. It is reported that investigations are being carried out on routes of travel and then registered.
