MANDALAY DIVISION- The detained NLD vice president, Ms. Win Mya Mya is reportedly released on Friday (May 12) from Obo Prison, according to Myanmar political society.
The seventy-year-old Ms. Win Mya Mya was detained for allegedly leading anti-junta protests in Mandalay and charged under section 505(A). She received the maximum sentence of three-year imprisonment (with labor) on June 29, 2022.
“I was so glad that she got released before her 3 years prison sentence. It’s about time her sufferings are over,” said a Mandalay NLD party member.
Ms. Win Mya Mya is an NLD nominee of Parliament member from Sintgaing Township and won the 2020 election.
She faced the coup d’état with other parliament members just before (taking the oath of office in Naypyidaw City and) officially taking her position.
After coming back to Mandalay from Naypyidaw, she was reportedly detained under the accusation of leading anti-junta protests.
