SHAN STATE – It was reported that the junta air force attacked the motorboats that came to rescue the displaced people in Pekhon Town where there has been a resurgence of intense battles.
The motorboats from the east bank of Pekhon Lake that went to rescue the residents from the west bank were fired at by the junta planes.
“When going to rescue the people trapped in the town yesterday (January 9), the junta planes fired at us just when the motorboat was approaching the shore near Pekhon. I must say it’s lucky that the shots missed. If not, both the boat and the people would sink in the lake. Some were successfully rescued but some had to run away. There are still people trapped in the town,” said a person who fled the war in Pekhon.
In addition, the people waiting at the harbour in Pekhon to leave the town also had to run away after the junta council forces opened fire on them with small and heavy weapons.
A post spreading on social media also shows a motorboat that came to rescue the displaced people being unable to approach land due to the attacks by the junta air force.
Starting January 7, there have been a resurgence of fierce battles in Pekhon and there are still civilians trapped in the town.
During Operation 1111, revolutionary forces have captured at least 12 camps of the junta council in Pekhon zone.
