KARENNI STATE- A regional development association taught agricultural methods to locals to provide nutritious food for pregnant and under-five children in Phruso Township.
“In Kayah (Karenni State), malnutrition is now at level 2. So as a prioritization, to increase nutritional values consumed by under-five children and pregnant mother, this knowledge sharing and education programme was conducted. We shared some knowledge, such as importance of cooking and preparing at the kitchen. We should avoid or lessen chemicals usage (such as pesticides and fertilizers) and knowledge on how to produce natural fertilizer by recycling,” said the teacher in the program.
He stated that the teaching prioritized for those at war-torn refugee camps in Phruso Township, on how to reduce the use of chemically treated vegetables, especially for women who work in kitchens.
Since malnutrition among under-five children in Karenni becomes the second highest in Myanmar, agriculture sectors and preparation in the kitchen are also important to ensure that they can eat enough nutritious food.
The farming training course started on June 5th and lasted for 3 days, and some seeds were also distributed for practical cultivation.
