KARENNI STATE – It has been reported on May 17 that some houses of the locals and the stored rice were damaged due to the rain pouring and the strong wind in the villages in the eastern part of Hpruso township, Karenni state, during the second week of May.
The locals mentioned that over 700 internally displaced people (IDP) have stayed at Kayhlar village, the eastern part of Hpruso Township where there are over 100 households. Due to the strong wind, some houses were damaged.
A local mentioned that “The roofs of the houses were damaged. If we count IDP in, 40 percent of the entire village were destroyed. The stored rice were damaged as the rice were wet, we cannot keep for so long. Some houses have been repaired. Some trees and bamboos were uprooted.”
Even though the locals are currently repairing their houses, they urgently need the shelters, said the locals.
“It would be the worst affected to the IDP as their places were only built with tents. Their tents can’t resist the storm,” said a local.
Three houses of the local, more than 10 tents of the IDP, the stored rice by the locals and a school were damaged in Kayhlar village.
