KARENNI STATE – The battle in Hpasawng Township, Karenni (Kayah) State has resulted in casualties from the Junta’s Council Army and the fighting continued on June 18, the Hpasawng PDF official said. After the attack on 3 junta council camps and the police station in Mese town, the junta council army has reinforced its strength in Hpasawng township on June 15 and battle broke out after junta side launching offensive.
“They (junta council) have started to launch offensive with a force of about 120. The details and the location of the battle have not yet been informed to public because of military situations. There are injuries and deaths on the junta’s side. However, until the morning of June 18, there are still engagements in guerrilla warfare.” the above official added.
A Karenni military source also informed that the junta council has sent some of the forces sent to the eastern side of Demoso to Hpasawng, in addition to its forces from Bawlakhe. “There is no fighting in Hpasawng town yet. The fighting happens on the east side of the Salween River between Hpasawng and Mese,” said the above military source.
The Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF) official told that the fighting areas have expanded in Karenni (Kayah) state and they are trying to spread good news to the people. They are battling as united forces against the junta army, said an official from KNDF.
On June 13, the Karenni Joint Forces attacked 3 military camps and a police station in Mese, and more than 40 guns were seized from Mese police station alone, and ammunition including two 120mm heavy weapons were obtained from the Taung Hla military council camp (B-14 camp), said a Karenni military source.
