TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The terrorist junta council soldiers set fire to Nyawpyin Village in Launglon Township, where the famous Pho Pho Kyauk Beach is located, according to the local residents.
It was said that the junta soldiers had burnt down the huts in the orchard in the east of the beach since 9 a.m. on Monday (January 8). They then marched to Nyawpyin Village in the afternoon, and started burning down the houses in the village at about 5:30 p.m. on the same day.
Besides arson attacks, the junta soldiers raided and destroyed most of the houses, reported the villagers. The number of houses destroyed by the arson is yet to be confirmed.
The above-mentioned junta force is the same as the 100-strong junta column that had been raiding Launglon Township and reportedly marched to Pho Pho Kyauk Beach from Yabe Village.
The Nyawpyin villagers had been forced to flee since January 8 morning.
The same junta column destroyed nearly 40 houses from Setpye, Laythunkhan, Hinchotaw, Thanhlyin and Thakyattaw villages of Launglon Township in the past ten days.
Previously in March 2023, the junta council soldiers burnt down around 150 houses in Nyawpyin and Aukkyaukwut villages.
