AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – After gunshots ran out in Pyapon Prison at around 5 p.m. on Sunday (March 31), military trucks entered the prison and 17 prisoners including political prisoners were injured in the crackdown, according to Mr. Taik Tun Oo, a leading executive member of Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM).
Then on April 1 morning, the prison stopped accepting care packages sent to prisoners. Meanwhile, junta soldiers and police are still present in the prison and were investigating the political prisoners, according to PPNM.
“Currently, the situation in Pyapon Prison is completely hidden from the outside. Therefore the lives of all prisoners including political prisoners are under threat. Currently, all 17 need to have their injuries treated at the prison hospital and will also require medical treatment,” said Mr. Taik Tun Oo, a PPNM leading executive member.
