TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Fuel dealers in Dawei said that due to the rising exchange rate of Thai Baht within these days, the price of imported motor fuel has risen to almost 3,000 kyats per liter.
At the gas stations where the price is calculated with the Baht exchange rate, the price of octane 92 per liter is more than 2,800 and octane 95 is more than 2,900 per liter, and the price of diesel is around 2,800 per liter. The price of fuel was only over 2,500 as of the 4th of this month, but the price has been rising every day this week.
“The whole week, the price went up completely. Yesterday was the sharpest increase. Even outside shops jumped up by around 100 per litre,” said a gasoline seller in Dawei on August 12.
According to the fuel committee of the junta council, the price of gasoline 92 on August 12 is 2355 kyats per liter, 95 is 2465 kyats per liter and diesel is 2530 kyats per liter.
The fuel committee also raised the price of fuel by more than a hundred per liter on August 11 alone.
Fuel prices are not set to change on Saturdays and Sundays, so the price will remain unchanged throughout August 13.
Fuel sellers in Dawei estimate that the price on Monday is less likely to fall and may rise again or flatten. Fuel prices recorded the highest on August 7, 2022, when 92 per liter was as high as 3,500 in outside gas stations.
Last Friday, the Thai Baht rose to around 98 Myanmar Kyats per Baht, and along with the Baht price, the prices of basic food and consumer goods also skyrocketed.
