SAGAING DIVISION – Residents reported the junta arsonists were setting fire to Naypukone Village in Butalin Township.
It is said that the junta forces entered the village in the morning of December 16 and torched the village and at least two houses were confirmed to have burned down.
“They entered the village at 6 a.m., looted the items that caught their fancy and burned down houses,” said a local source.
The same junta troops then returned to Butalin Town at around 7 a.m. and shelled the nearby villages unprovoked, injuring civilians.
“They fired heavy artillery from inside the police station. One of the shells landed near the harvesting area and injured a woman. It was not a serious injury,” said a Butalin resident.
It is said that the junta council has increased military activities including the launch of offensives in Butalin Township starting December 10.
