SAGAING DIVISION – Local people reported that the junta troops that have been raiding, robbing, killing, and terrorizing in Butalin Township raided and robbed Nay Pu Kone Village in Butalin Township, Sagaing Division on Friday (May 19) morning and also abducted some local women.
Local PDF said that on May 19, at 5:00 a.m., about 40 junta troops that came out of Butalin Myo Ma Police Station raided Nay Pu Kone Village with gunfire, destroyed three motorbikes belonging to local people, stole valuables, and abducted some local women.
“The incident happened at 5:30 a.m. Three motorbikes belonging to the local people were burned in the football field in the village. Some women were also abducted. We don’t know exactly how many were abducted,” said a local PDF member.
Local people reflected that the abducted women were normal civilians and were taken to be used as hostages and human shields. It is said that the junta forces broke into Nay Pu Kone Village and stole the local people’s money and goods.
“The junta forces raiding, robbing, killing, and terrorizing the villages in Butalin Township usually abduct local people as human shields in order to defend from the mine attacks of local PDFs. They would kill some of those civilians, and would only release the civilians who are still alive when they reached Pyu Saw Htee camp and military camps after demanding ransom money,” said a local resident who had experienced it.
Locals said that the military junta is arbitrarily killing, robbing, and terrorizing local people, including men, women, children, in the Butalin area, just a few miles away from the junta Northwestern Command in Monywa.
